Beyond Technical Skills – Building Safer, Smarter, More Effective Teams
In high-risk activities, technical proficiency is essential—but it’s not enough. Aviation, healthcare, and offshore industries have known for years that the difference between safe, high-performing teams and near misses lies in Non-Technical Skills (NTS) such as communication, decision-making, teamwork, leadership, situation awareness, and understanding the role of performance shaping factors.
This course translates those standards into practice. Through immersive missions, structured reflection, and proven debriefing tools, you’ll learn to detect errors earlier, manage risks more effectively, and respond to the unexpected with clarity and confidenceÂ

What You Will Be Able to Do
By the end of this programme, you will:

Communicate with precision and clarity – using closed-loop exchanges and structured briefings so messages are understood the way they’re intended.

Strengthen situation awareness – spotting when attention has narrowed, anticipating what’s coming next, and sharing cues across the team.

Make better decisions under pressure – applying structured models (SPORDEC, TDODAR) to slow down when it matters and avoid outcome bias.

Lead and follow effectively – adapting your style to the task and team, creating psychological safety, and ensuring role clarity in high-risk environments.

Debrief for real learning – using the DEBrIEF framework to identify what worked, why it worked, and how to improve both individually and as a team.

Recognise and manage stress and fatigue – adjusting plans early to protect safety margins before small issues spiral into major problems.
