"The HFiD: Masterclass replaced my instinct to blame with a desire to understand the context of errors. It broke the shackles of 'sunk cost,' giving me the freedom to thumb a dive or end a dive relationship without guilt, prioritizing safety over investment." - NMK
You want to understand what factors contribute to a successful (or less successful) dive.
You want to foster an environment where every team member can contribute without embarrassment.
You want to understand how and why divers make good or bad decisions.
You want to learn from diving experiences where something went wrong or you felt uncomfortable, without being judged.
You want to improve your leadership, followership and communication skills.
If so, then you've come to the right place.

The awareness developed in the Masterclass goes beyond that created via the initial theory of Essentials and the experiential awareness in the Applied Skills class. The awareness developed here allows you to abstract the concepts, ideas and tools to many different aspects so that you can enhance your performance as a diver and improve your diving safety.

With six times as much time spent on knowledge transfer, and three times more than the Applied Skills class, the Masterclass digs much deeper into topics, giving you lots of examples of joining the theory with practice. You will also learn from other members in the class as you share your stories and reflections, bringing the theory to life. This is an applied knowledge Masterclass. You won't just be better than yesterday as a diver, this applies to life in general.

You will see the world through fresh eyes - not just in your diving but your 'normal' life too. This course isn't just about enhancing your diving performance by building knowledge and awareness, it will give you skills and insights into how to be more effective in your professional and personal life too. Deep discussions and reflections will allow you to see how changes can be applied beyond just your own diving or diving instruction, but much wider into your personal and professional lives.
You will have developed a deeper knowledge that allows you to meet your goals of creating positive change in your own diving, by enhancing your performance through deeper knowledge development. You will have the tools, the knowledge, and the motivation to make a positive difference in the diving world.
You will be better than yesterday.

As a leader of a multi agency public safety dive taskforce and team. I have to say this class hits on a lot of very important topics that help team leaders and members understand how to be great leaders and follower. All the while, creating an environment to fail safely in.

As science divers, a huge risk is to become too task focused. From better briefs and checklists to improved situation awareness and just culture, this training provided relevant information on how we can do better to mitigate this risk.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I wholeheartedly believe that there is not a single person on this planet that would not benefit from taking this course. What I keep telling people who I would like to take this course is, that this is by no means a course that is focused on diving. It applies to everything and everyone, every workspace, every recreational activity, and any social interaction.

"Human Factors in Diving" as promoted and presented by Gareth is something that training agencies around the world should seriously consider adopting and doing so from initial dive training and throughout all dive progression. It is a 'culture changer' in the most positive of ways and its adoption will undoubtedly make better, safer and more resilient divers.

After skimming the surface of HFiD for the last 18 months or so, the 10 week webinar series really helped me immerse myself in the topic and understand the many different areas in more detail. I lead dive teams. I'm a dive centre owner so I have a team of staff. I'm a CD so I have teams of candidates. I'm an instructor so my baby students are my team. Using the techniques I've learnt from The Human Diver have helped me create an atmopshere where divers feel safe, respected and able to learn at all levels.
Undoubtedly having good technical skills makes you a good and safe diver and that is the goal of getting "certified" but this is not enough. How many times have you seen or read situations in diving that are far from "up to spec"? How many times you have done unsafe dives due to time, money or peer pressures? This is when Human Factors come in. The class allowed me to look in the mirror and learn the real reasons why I made decisions in diving that in retrospect were so wrong but I still made them anyway. It also showed the things other than buoyancy control or trim (for example) that are missing from diver training and why and how to get better at these "human" skills.
I can't believe how far I have come after these 10 weekly sessions. I really wasn't certain the curriculum would reveal in such great detail the essential critical human factors that exposed me to my own technical diving weakness, strengths, and ways to improve. The course offered a clear perspective / approach to improving on overall behavioral knowledge regarding the human elements to diving that mitigate risks and present a roadmap to safer dives. A revelation to better understanding how I can learn from my mistakes or violations and how to change the course of how I dive in the future. A fun easy interactive approach to learning how we on a human level can directly affect the outcome of our dives. This course should be a pre-requisite to OW courses, and all Recreational & Technical divers. I highly recommend this Human Diver course to family and friends.
Each week the 2-hour live session is broken down into 3-4 sections of 15-20 minutes of theory delivery, with 5 mins of group discussion relating to each topic, and then 20-30 mins of group reflection at the end focusing on practical application and takeaways.
