THE HUMAN DIVER PROGRAMME

Developing Knowledge. Learning Skills. Taking Action.

THE HUMAN DIVER PROGRAMME

The programme offers insight from novice divers to highly experienced and everyone in between. It is widely accepted that most accidents and adverse events in diving are not down to undetected technical failures! They are due to a breakdown in communication, poor decision-making or a lack of situational awareness. Or more likely a chain of events which are based around these human factors

“Every diver novice or experienced diver needs to hear this!”.

This is perfect for those who are in leadership positions of agencies, scientific diving establishments or expeditions/projects.

"This is some of the best and most important training I have done in my diving career. Gareth is an excellent teacher and communicator, has pulled together a range of material from an incredible variety of sources, and pulled them together to provide one of the richest learning experiences in a dynamic and engaging group environment. If I were to to recommend a single piece of training for someone doing diving, or any kind of complex activity, this would be it. Regardless of experience level, technical level or type of diving you are doing (recreational or technical) this is probably the most important and valuable course you could ever do. And it may end up saving your life or someone else's life. Just do it."

HUMAN FACTORS IN DIVING: LEVEL 1 - WEBINAR SERIES

For divers who want to take a slower-paced approach to learning and are undertaking CCR, Cave, Tech and leaders in diving roles (DM, Instructor and IT/CD). This course takes place over ten weeks with each week’s 90-min webinar consisting of a specific topic relating to human factors, non-technical skills and just culture with the goal of improving both your knowledge and practical skills to improve your diving safety and performance. A short piece of homework is required to be completed prior to the next webinar to consolidate the knowledge. Outcomes are the ability to apply a different perspective to your diving so that you make better decisions because you have more targeted situation awareness, you are able to communicate more effectively with your students or teammates leading to a more productive training or ‘fun’ diving team, and finally, to create both a Just Culture and psychological safety in your local diving communities. "I have taken two courses of Human Factors in Diving this year. These courses have been some of the most impactful and effective instruction I have received to date. Thinking about thinking (metacognition) is not an easy topic to teach, and Gareth shows true mastery of the material. His willingness and ability to receive feedback and make changes in real time shows his passion for always improving the courses. These topics are beyond highly recommended for divers of any level, and are a must for anyone participating in the more high risk levels of diving. These concepts are immediately applicable in all facets of life, work, and diving.

Thank you Gareth Lock for your continued pursuit in education of Human Factors in Diving."

~Eric Marchwinski

All video-based content is available after the course has finished and will be made available to you for as long as The Human Diver is running. The Level 1 blended learning programme and Level 2 course also have course notes which help accelerate and consolidate the learning.

"I took my third class in the Human Factors in Diving series this week. Each class surpasses the previous one. Gareth is an excellent instructor, the materials are top quality and constantly updated with feedback from classes and real life situations. The atmosphere of the classes promotes honest discussion and healthy participation among fellow students.

The online micro-class is highly recommended for all divers, and certainly for leadership level individuals in the dive industry(dive professionals, live aboard operators, dive shop managers).

Thank you for a very engaging early morning start to a weekend Gareth Lock and every one else who was part of the Level 1 hybrid learning program."
